Privacy Policy
How Snapok and snapok.app handle your screenshots and data.
Last updated: 2026-10-02
Snapok is a macOS screenshot app published by ThinkAny, LLC. This policy covers the Snapok app and the snapok.app website.
Your screenshots stay on your Mac
Snapok does not run a server that receives your screenshots. Captures, annotations, recognized text, and settings are stored locally in ~/Library/Application Support/Snapok/. Screenshots older than your chosen retention period (30 days by default) are deleted automatically, and you can clear the library at any time in Settings.
Text recognition and sensitive-information masking run entirely on your device using Apple's Vision framework.
Optional AI features
Translation, screenshot questions, and automatic titles and tags use your own model provider: Anthropic or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint. API keys are stored only in the macOS Keychain and sent only to the configured provider. These requests are governed by that provider's terms and privacy policy.
Translation recognizes text on-device and sends recognized text blocks to your default model. Image input is off by default. Enabling visual context also sends the annotated screenshot; asking about a screenshot uses your vision model. Image inputs include current annotations, so masked areas stay masked. Automatic naming sends each new screenshot to your provider and is off until you enable it.
Anonymous usage and crash reports
Official builds published by this repository send anonymous usage events to PostHog and crash reports to Sentry. Events cover launches, completed captures and their actions, AI features used, and installed updates. Each installation has a random ID; usage events create no person profiles and do not include screenshots, recognized text, file names, prompts, or keys. You can turn reporting off in Settings → About → Privacy.
Reporting requires the configured reporting keys and a Developer ID signature. Builds from source and forks do not report.
Permissions
Snapok asks for Screen Recording permission to capture the screen, and optionally Accessibility permission to detect individual interface elements. This information is used only on your device to build the capture selection.
The website
snapok.app is a static marketing site. We may use privacy-friendly analytics to count page views. If you create an account on the site, we store your email address and name to operate it. We do not sell personal data.
Downloads
Official release and development downloads and update manifests are hosted at cdn.snapok.app using Cloudflare R2. Other commit and pull request builds are available as GitHub Actions artifacts; downloading those is subject to GitHub's privacy statement.
